Winning the MTNA State Competition: A Turning Point
Winning the MTNA State Competition: A Turning Point
Published on November 07, 2022

The Music Teachers National Association competitions are among the most respected in the United States, and winning the Massachusetts state division was a pivotal moment in my development as a pianist.

The Repertoire Challenge

MTNA competitions require complete programs showing technical and musical range. My winning program included:

  • Mozart's Sonata in B-flat major, K. 333
  • Debussy's "L'isle joyeuse"
  • Rachmaninoff's Étude-Tableau in E-flat minor, Op. 39 No. 5

Lasting Benefits

Beyond the immediate recognition, this victory provided:

  • Confidence in my artistic voice
  • Performance opportunities at new venues
  • Connections with fellow young musicians

The MTNA competition proved to be both a culmination of previous work and a springboard for future growth.
