Being selected as a finalist for the Nashville International Chopin Competition was both exhilarating and humbling. This prestigious event attracts the finest young Chopin interpreters from around the globe, and to stand among them was a dream realized.
The Preparation Process
Six months of intensive preparation went into my competition repertoire. I focused on presenting contrasting aspects of Chopin's genius:
- The heroic Polonaise in A-flat major, Op. 53
- The delicate Barcarolle in F-sharp major, Op. 60
- A selection of Mazurkas showcasing Chopin's Polish roots
Competition Highlights
The most valuable aspect was receiving feedback from jury members including renowned Chopin specialists. Their insights on:
- Authentic rubato application
- Historical performance practices
- Structural awareness in larger works
have fundamentally changed my approach to Chopin's music.
