The Southeastern Piano Festival stands out among competitions for its emphasis on education and community. Winning a prize here felt particularly meaningful because of the growth I experienced throughout the process.
The Festival Experience
What makes SEPF unique:
- Daily masterclasses with different professors
- Peer learning through competitor seminars
- Performance opportunities beyond the competition
Competition Repertoire Strategy
For the Arthur Fraser Competition, I designed a program that showed both technical mastery and emotional range:
- Bach's Prelude and Fugue in C-sharp minor (WTC I)
- Beethoven's Sonata Op. 31 No. 2 ("Tempest")
- Liszt's transcendental Étude "Feux Follets"
- Chopin's Ballade No. 3 in A-flat major
This carefully balanced program allowed me to demonstrate versatility while maintaining artistic coherence.
